Any night owls up?

I'm on call this week. I got eight calls so far today.

It seems some people have nothing better to do with their Memorial Day weekend than ruin my Memorial Day weekend...

Anyway, no point in going to bed if I'm just going to get a call at 1am...

I'm more of a morning person. But the morning doesn't have the quiet, tenebrous mystery of the late night. I'm sitting by my open window, enjoying the cool breeze, and listening to the trains go by out by the river.

I have to stay sober and clear-headed for outpatient call. So just some sparkling water for me...

I often read until the early morning hours. I have the patio door open with cool breeze drifting through the living room...sitting in my recliner with my feet up......listening to the coyotes singing.

But, since I have to get up and go to work every weekday, I go to bed at a reasonable hour at night (usually) and take a stab at getting some sleep.

The weekends are nice, because I don't have to pretend to go to sleep by a certain time...

I can be up when I want, go to bed when I want.......sip wine, read, smoke when i want, watch movies to all hours. I worked from the time I was 16 until I retired when I was 66. In between married, raised a family, worked full time, went to school full time. I am always amazed at the energy I had when I was younger.

Good song.

I'm not the biggest Elvis fan on the planet. But I like this one.

I think he squandered an immense amount of talent...

I was absolutely and without a doubt watching this instructional video about how to navigate a steep grade with a coal train, because that's how I roll at 3 AM on a Sunday;

There were absolutely ZERO women wearing cheerleader costumes having sex on a couch appearing on my computer screen.

Of that I can testify.

Just not under oath.

Proper tank video;

Love you lots dear Aristus. Can't believe you are so much the elder. 😎🙃 But makes sense with your volumes of wisdom and fun in your "Ask me anything" threads.
I know you are, but it can't hurt saying it again, take care and stay well. You are much loved.

Ever hear those news stories about how someone called 9-1-1 because McDonald's didn't get their order right? Or because they can't find their TV remote?

I get a lot of calls like that.

Out-patient call is supposed to be for after-hours patient concerns that fall somewhere between "Let's see if it clears up on its own" and "You'd better go to the emergency room right away."

Instead, I get calls from patients who just don't seem to have anything better to do. Once, I got a call from a woman at 3am ( on a work-night, no less ) who just wanted to know what the potential side effects of her medication were ( despite the fact that prescription medications always come with a print-out of potential side effects ).

Twice now, I've received phone calls from patients who had issues that warranted a trip to the emergency room, and I told them so, only to find out that they were calling me from the emergency room, and they weren't happy with the treatment they were getting! That's crazy any time of the day, but when it wakes you out of a sound sleep, you start re-examining your life's choices...

Seems almost weird to say happy memorial day this year. but, may the calls end and you enjoy your holiday.

I wake up. This is my life. Only a few hours of sleep per night. I take after my mom in that regard. At least she would fall asleep at the kitchen table during the day. I stay awake.
