by leaving a vacuum cleaner cord arranged in a circle on the floor. Within minutes, my older cat, Lili, was sitting inside the circle!

Wiccans' circle is a most essential ceremonial element. Couldn't keep the cats out of the procedures, so they claimed them?

so many strays. They all deserve a good, loving home. Cats respond to love, just like dogs do.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/lifestyle/pets-animals/why-do-cats-like-to-sit-in-squares/ar-bb14ttie

Most cat parents know that if you draw a square on the floor, your cat is going to come running and sit in it. While this behavior is endearing, it is also a little strange.

Snip

Why do cats like to sit in squares?

"The simple answer is that it makes them feel secure and safe. The cat's perception is that a square is a box without walls. The area provides security and comfort to the cat even though it is misplaced," says Michelle Burch, DVM.

They love to be admired (shades of ancient Egypt?) and perhaps instinctively know that if they sit in a circle, square, hexagon, octagon or whatever, they will be noticed and admired.

Just my theory, for what it's worth!!!
