Food for thought....

In Costa Rica there are dogs free ranging everywhere. They are allowed just about everywhere. However, you can never leave them waiting in a car.

The country has a no kill policy. Therefore, there are many (too many) rescues.

Most dogs are either chihuahua mixes or pit bull mixes.

Every pit bull we have crossed paths with, is a sweetie pie. All have been
even-tempered, gentle and good with other dogs.

So , basically the US has engineered a sweet loving breed into fearful criminals banned from society in many places.

We have so much to recover to become a proud nation.

How animals and people are treated in the United States is shameful.

But the dogs (generally described as American Staffordshire Terriers) all appear to be very sweet and loving dogs. I think there relatively few that are used for dog fighting or as "guard" dogs and taught to be mean. The breed seems to have gotten a very bad reputation because of those poor dogs.

What do they do for food and is there some kind of program to give them rabies shots and other vet care?

The dogs with homes go home. The rescues that are rib showing usually go to a rescue. However, around town they have rigged up feeders with pvc pipe. Different businesses take care of them but anyone can dump food into the feeder.

There are benefits for rescue shelters. Last one raised $800 which is a chunk of change here.

We rescued a boy dog from Adopteme Tilaran. He’s a gem.
