Can anyone relate to this? A few days ago I was trying to

Log in to a patient portal to see my test results. I had my username and password written down as I always do.

I carefully typed it in. Login failed. Tried several times. Still login failed. Went thru this a while, getting more and more aggravated. Finally called the help number.

I felt like I want to chew somebody out. But to my credit, I managed to talk to her calmly. (Progress, not perfection.) I asked her if they change the password every so often. She said they did, if you hadn’t logged on in a while. She suggested that I login monthly just to keep the login up-to-date. And she reset my password so I was able to get in.

My point is, this sort of problem with technology makes me infuriated beyond what is reasonable. This was not a life-and-death situation.

Can anybody relate?

It's an annoyance, but not the sort of thing to really piss me off.

what you went through was peanuts - try calling someone in Malaysia and having to take 30 minutes just getting them to understand what application you are referring to

I just looked, I've got 320 passwords I keep track of ... at home. Almost all of them are random-strings that I've generated.

Hmm, they go back to 2003 ... and include logins on sites for sites/companies that I know have gone out of business. I suspect I should clean out my password db! Another task for lockdown

But I hope she used something reasonable to confirm your identity? Asking support to reset passwords is an old old hacker trick.

I just love it when our insurance company's computer calls us, and demands private information from us before it will continue. Never gonna happen.

Mitnick's book (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Art_of_Deception) is full of examples where a little knowledge is used to gain a little more knowledge which is used to gain the keys to the kingdom. Just fyi.

... and then you have to remember where to hide them, and they could be stolen or copied without your knowing it. Kind of defeats the point of that "extra" security.

Most places where I have accounts I seldom use, I routinely ask to reset my password by email every time because there are only a couple of passwords that are worth the effort to remember.

Pretty much every site I have to access for work does this on a monthly basis. They always require a password reset at the most inopportune times. And we are not allowed to write them down. And we are asked to make sure that none of them are similar. And each site has their own rules on what is required or disallowed in a password. And some of them also require tokens that provide temporary passwords and they frequently change the token codes.

It would be kind of manageable if I didn't have to access 37 different web sites and applications daily in the normal course of my job. Yes. I can more than relate.

I had no say when and what they uploaded my records, I was INFORMED they had, and here is password.

Checked the records a couple times, found enough errors to make me happy, and stopped checking it, couple years ago.

Until recently...then could not log on,etc. so called Dr. Office. They calmly told me that happens when you don't log on for awhile.

This is the only time anyone told me that.

then the nurse said they have problems like that all the time and end up crashing their own server/system..whatever it is.

Whenever I see the doc, her staff are always complaining about the computer system they have to use.

Businesses etc., seem to think their technology processes are known worldwide, or at least since our birth. When things don't work, you were lucky. Many just point the finger at another source of the problem just to get you off the phone.

The subconscious stress and worsened depression caused by continuous bad news from around the globe and tRump in power makes the aggravation from little annoyances multiply far more than normal for me.

I hope to live long enough to have a year or so of peaceful times, but have my doubts.

19. I hate those patient portals

Every single doctor I go to wants me to set up an account at their patient portal and check into it regularly. Family practice, cardiologist, urologist, osteo surgeons for my knees and for my back, physical therapists, dentist, and more. I am not going to sign into ANY of them, much less check in at least once a month. I've got other things to do. And I don't have enough medical problems that need that kind of monitoring.

The most recent PITA is that one of my doctors has gone to reminding me about appointments - and sometimes making appointments and notifying me - by cell phone. BUUUUT I originally did not give them my cell, since I do not use it as a primary contact, so they send the messages by text to my landline. For some strange reason, I never get the texts. I've nearly missed appointments because they no longer have a system to actually call or send out mail for people who do not have a cell or want to give it out to everyone.

I had to give them my cell for a televisit but when it was time for his nurse to send me the link to the conference, she sent it to my landline. I've got two more years to do checks with this doctor to make sure my kidney cancer has not returned. I may tell him that while I like him, his office has never notified me of appointments (the only way I find out is that I realize it is time for me to see him), they make appointments without checking with me, and only notify me by text message - to my fucking landline! And now that I HAVE given them my cell, they seem unable to attach it to my file so they can use it.
