There has been backlash to the meme, with the Columbia Journalism Review calling it "one of journalisms darkest and most lucrative cottage industries" where "stories tend to stand as exemplars of the mythical hyper-weirdness of the Sunshine State, but more often simply document the travails of the drug-addicted, mentally ill, and homeless."[

(Some) liberals want treatment to be "voluntary," like this man who clearly can't take care of himself and poses a potential threat is some wild animal to be observed but not interfered with as it follows its bliss. They yell at society for not just giving him a mansion, then step over him as he lies unconscious in his own excrement.
Hard to decide which is worse.
