6. A good idea that failed

The idea was good: a place of open, fair discussion.


What happened was that it turned into a right-wing sewer with a core of a dozen accounts spamming one lie after another. Some of the Good Guys tried to argue back but were bullied or banned through the use of the jury system.

I thought it might be necessary to snorkel the sewer and lace it with drive-by posts. If the administrators shut down Disco, good. The denizens of Trollhatten can go find some other place to spew.

Shutting down Discussionist

When I started this website, I did so because I believed there is value in having places where people with differing points of view could actually talk to each another.

I still believe that. But unfortunately I stopped believing in the value of this particular community a while ago.

You should expect the site to be shut down fairly soon.
