I had 2 batches of ducklings hatch last year, 2 different moms. I put them all in the covered dog kennel to keep the raccoons from getting them. The moms would nip at each other's kids if they got too close. 16 babies altogether. Its why I had to sell a bunch of Muscovey ducks last month!

that didn't hatch after 21 days, so the owners tore up the nest and decided to get rid of them. I got to reading about them and learned that the incubation period was 28 days.

Anyway, they laid another clutch of eggs and hatched 10 ducklings. It was kind of neat watching them catch bugs and play in the wading pool, but when the fall rains started they were pulling up the grass and making a real mess of the yard, so I gave them away. They aren't meant for a city dweller. I had named the adults Gladstone Gander and Paddlin' Madeline.

The problem is when they get big enough to start eating up the barn cats' food, getting into the horse water troughs, flying onto the roof of the house so they sound like Santa's reindeer up there (metal roof), and generally making a mess everywhere. And 'scoveys have claws that can do some damage when you're trying to catch them.

I'm looking for some nice, peaceful Khaki Campbells now. I have one that has to be close to 15 years old.

Don't know if she had a hand in the rescue, but she did in the adoption.
