I'm not even qualified for AAA. Mozart wrote some of the most ferociously difficult opera arias in the literature. Come scoglio from Cosi fan tutte is another one. It's not only virtuosic; the range is really challenging. And there's a funny story about it. Apparently Mozart disliked the soprano for whom the role of Fiordiligi was first created (she was the librettist's girlfriend). She had a tendency to drop her chin when singing low notes and throw back her head while the high notes, so Mozart, being kind of an asshole, filled the aria with these enormous intervals to make her "bob her head like a chicken."

My voice teacher told me about a young (high school age) student who wanted to sing the Queen of the Night aria, and who was disappointed to learn that maybe she could do it in another 20 years or so.

I have often found that music can relieve my stress when almost nothing else can.

For a generally civilized, liberal and peace-loving bunch of people, the Norwegians produce some really unnerving rock music.

It was glorious! We invited the high schoolers to sing it with us. Need to get them addicted to classical music early.

We are on hiatus (as well as my church choir) until who-knows-when.

I had Beethoven on the other day - concertos - but it was too intense for the state of the world right now.

Mozart sounds just right!

Thanks, Aristus.

But when we watched the scene detailing the composition of the Requiem, with the various elements being hashed out individually and then put together, he just said "Wow!"

Depicting the scene, with the musical elements backing Mozart's musical dictation, was a stroke of genius on Milos Forman's part.
