Hi! NEWBIE to DU --- Not to Liberal/Progressive Politics

First my username -
the electric_blue part does double duty as being a Democrat and as an Artist and Crafter -
"electric" (as in vivid) Royal Blue is one of my favorite colors!
The 68
stands for - that I was 15 yrs old, cogent, and already semi-active in political stuff, and experienced the deep shocks and sorrows of that year (and feels like echoes here in 2020).
Reason I joined - remembered you from around W's time in office as I realized I needed more outlets for political discussion!
Born and bred NYC'r. Love my city. Have visted other cool USA cities, and our deep, amazing countryside! Gone to lots of marches, rallies, memorials in NYC, and DC over a bunch of decades (but now not till a vaccine is proven really effective).I'm 67.
{ I'm better alive spreading beauty, wonder, delight, joy, laughter as I can through my talents, and sharing good fun, beauty (photos, stories) etc .
These emotional experiences boost the immune system, and give even if short(er) term - an emotional rest to various
people in various beleaguered states.
Also doing other things to lend support.}
Got "woke" some where between 10-12 yrs, but ever more awakened through listening and reading black people's RL stories, and history through all these decades.
Been using the Internet since '95.

I can hear the music & singing of the chorus in my head even before I listen. 
With my welcome! A wonderful Sunday morning smilefest. A hangover from Caturday and so MUCH more. Look for it tomorrow! The dial up warning makes me chuckle cuz I used to live in the country with dial up. I guess there may still be dial up modems out there. 
Been on the internet since 95 too. Small ISP tech support manager after grad at community college.

DU has been a place where I have kept a tiny portion of my sanity. Don't want to lose it all during these trying times.
You will find that this is a wonderful place for conversations and for learning. Many smart educated folks here who are happy to share their knowledge about many topics.
Be sure to look for Sunday LolCats! As we navigate our way through the sewer that is Trump, it's lovely to find beauty and laughter at least once a week.
Chicago is one of the cities I haven't gotten to visit after my fortunes changed. It's my #1 on cities I haven't been to yet List (vs return visits). I know some things about it.

Western New York here, but it's all good. I'm a few years older, but we're in the same wheelhouse. Anyway, welcome and thanks for returning to the fold. 
We have to knock Trump down so far he'll be able to pull his socks up over his head.
