Is anyone actually considering going to the gym right now?

I just got a notice that my gym is reopening and can't for a second envision going anytime soon. I get that they will be operating at limited capacity, with constant cleaning and an abundance of hand sanitizer, but there's just no way you can prevent a gym from becoming a laboratory for the virus if it gets into the air.

Am I missing something? I'll keep biking, running, and walking, but the gym just seems like way too big a risk for the indefinite future.

I think I've actually cried a few times about our gym closings. For quite a while we walked and did other exercises outside every day. Then I got sick. I want to start walking again but I'm terribly weak. I'll probably have to wait until I'm better.

when quarantine hit. They extended the expiration date. When (and if) they open, I'll go with sanitizer and wipes and clean down the bike I'll be using. That is, if there's nobody on adjacent bikes.

I have a twice a week Zoom session with my trainer. She's not too keen on returning to the gym as well. I for one reason or another have stopped road cycling. It's not a social distancing thing except for my once a week group ride- I certainly miss that. I've been doing rides with my direct drive trainer and the Zwift app. I rode 110 miles with 7,466' of climbing. That is a lot for this flat land boy.

I got an email yesterday from the gym about their new and improved protocols. I still don't want to go. My wife had open heart surgery and I am a type 2 diabetic - so no thanks.

So many people seem to worry about sanitizing the equipment and the sterility of the environment. That doesn't matter. From what I understand, person to person contact is what continues to spread the virus. Rarely is it transmitted from surface to person.

The cleanest gym in the world can still be a superspreader if everybody is in there breathing hard and socializing.

but then again I run at midnight with no one else there and will wipe everything down on the treadmill and wash my hands straight after so the risk level is pretty low. I wouldn't consider going into a gym filled with other people.

I really miss going, and hate being at home other than some work and trips to the grocery store.

The Y here reopened about 4 weeks ago. When I read the restrictions - no lockers/showers, limited number inside at a time, limited to 60 minute visits, masks required in public areas, temp check on entrance, I thought I could work with that.

Until I got to the last line of the email - masks required inside, but not when exercising. Unbelievable! I have no desire to be in a room with people huffing, puffing and exerting themselves. So I called up and put my membership on hold. Since the Y does some charitable things, and I still have work, I hadn't stopped the monthly payment. But if they're gonna open under those conditions, I'm not paying until they open the right way.

yesterday. Lot of rules. Masks, gloves, 10' distancing, limited activities and hours, 1 way circuits, lot of plexiglass, etc.

I went at 8a opening. Very empty. First hour reserved for seniors. Staffer at entrance has board of questions [fever? ill feelings? etc.] Limited capacity for given space.

Gym nearly empty. Lot of staff cleaning equipment being , checking compliance.

Glad I went. Very light workout, but after over 2 months of no aerobic, etc. - felt pumped. [Had done stretching yoga, light barbells - needed that]

If it gets busy, even if very well spaced, I will stop.

I wasn't interested in going to the gym when it was offered there, and will only attend as long as they keep it online. All of the other people in the class wanted it to stay online, so they could avoid the virus. Really proud of them all

I am not an exercise fan. I'm overweight, always have had a weight problem. Was dismayed when gym class became part of my grade school education lol A relative owns the gym that offers the Silver Sneakers class. When I took my grand kids there for their basketball practice, I singed up and did a few things. Their practices ended and I stopped going, didn't miss it. Some of my good friends are in the Zoom class, and it is nice to see them for a few minutes before and after the class. The instructor is excellent, my friend's daughter.

But then again, I never did. So why start now?

If I had a dime for everytime I joined a gym and blew it off, I'd be living on my own island right now.

I don't know why, but I just hate gyms. I would much rather go for a walk or a hike. I used to love to ski until I blew my knee out numerous times and that was the end of that. I also like to go biking on a trail, not on a road. And I like to swim.

been getting fined daily and doesn't care. Court just ruled against him and told the town they could do whatever they wanted to shut him down so they turned off water and electricity last night and today they changed the locks (landlord agreed).

He's having a protest on Saturday in the parking lot.

And no, I wouldn't go to the gym right now.
