BLM needs to reclaim Jesus
We all know, by myth, he was born in what is now the middle East. There were no blond, blue eyed white guys.

1. What does Jesus look like? It depends on whose living room wall his portrait hangs.

2. That's actually not quite true
It’s rare but it happens. Imam Malik ibn Anas was blond haired and blue eyed.

3. Hair like lamb's wool and feet the color of burned bronze
According to Revelations, which is where the only description exists, he was a brown skinned guy with a Jewish 'fro. It was very likely the main reason Revelations, a fantasy of the destruction of Rome and the death of Nero, was included in a book assembled to serve Empire.
That sad Scandinavian one has needed to go for a long time. For anyone who wants to know where a lot of this stuff came from, a YouTube series called "The Dark Ages: An Age of Light," a four part series that traces Christian and Muslim art and architecture through a period when a lot of people thought nothing much was happening. It was. ETA: First episode |

4. He didn't look like a Swede but also didn't look like a Nubian as some claim.
Most likely had the same complexion as modern Levantines (Israelis, Lebanese, Syrians and Jordanians)

5. Like it matters
The color. BLM needs to reclaim Jesus just like MLK, however, I do get wary when overt religion leads people in their thinking. We had two friends over last week, both black, and we agreed on mostly everything, but because they were very religious they were rabidly anti choice, even so far as saying rape and incest is not a good reason for abortion. So it's a dicey situation to hop oneself on religion. |
