I made a new, groovy reversible mask, today

It's too hot to work outside so I was digging around for an interesting fabric for masks and saw this strange strip of fabric that was once, I think, a part of a bed sheet. I am creatively measuring and cutting. Unfortunately, the cool black/red/white border design was only on one end of the length so I was only able to make 3 masks with it. The rest will be made with a color on one side and the black/white design on the other. I think it is the perfect piece of fabric for masks.

I even made 3 cocktail dresses and an evening gown for my cruise on the QE2 because, after paying for passage, I couldn't afford to buy them.

Since I retired, my sewing machine has been buried in the spare room - until now. I might even dig out some of my patterns.

One dress was from a Bob Mackie wrap around dress pattern I bought on clearance. Also got the fabric on clearance. I think that was the dress I was wearing when I met Hermes Pan, who was a very famous Hollywood choreographer. He worked with Ann Miller, Fred Astaire and Rita Hayworth. I felt quite sophisticated, in my homemade dress, sipping on cocktails in a first class lounge, listening to him tell wonderful stories of old Hollywood. Some great memories.

I don’t have any elastic so I’m making ones that have to be tied.

Following the procedure shown here.

Except I don’t have any interfacing and I’m not doing the final top stitching step. I also don’t have denim but do have lots of remnants. Donating them to a senior citizens meals program and a homeless resource center.

She's been handing them out to postal workers and law enforcement, among others. Word got out and the local food bank started sending her food baskets, every week, or so. At first she tried to decline but they insisted. Which is great because she doesn't have a regular job, right now, but makes and sells clothing and jewelry. Fortunately she has 3 housemates that area great.

I found a big stash of elastic in my sewing stuff and gave her all but one packet. She used it up in no time. Now she's making masks with ties.

Before my wife was able to get the materials she needed to make masks for us we were lucky to get a few from someone who made and donated them to us. It was very much appreciated, and I am glad that you're helping senior citizens and homeless people.
