I'm a gearhead, I shamelessly love all racing. I love Formula 1, it's the absolute pinnacle of technology. Likewise, I love Top Fuel drag racing; it's the pinnacle of "how fast can we accelerate?". NASCAR is glorious in its simple, brute-force approach. Rally racing, hillclimbs, karting, autocross, I love it all.
But the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy is a whole different world. 200+mph, on race-prepared motorcycles...on public roads. Over probably half the course, if you crash, you're going to die.

(11,794 posts)Ive almost always had sports cars. My last was a Mitsubishi 3000GT. This 6 speed mini turbo is hands down the most fun car Ive ever owned. Definitely not the fastest. But definitely the most fun!

(4,741 posts)It was an amazing, overengineered land rocket, and I'd pay you $10k for yours. $20k if it was 4wd.
Seriously.
The Figment
(494 posts)I love all forms of racing, but this takes being a bit cray-cray and ball of stainless steel!

(9,663 posts)Very unique. Very dangerous. I think the TT claims an average of two, maybe three riders a year .
I enjoy just about any kind of racing but AMA flat track racing, especially on the mile, does it for me. Take a look at the last few laps of this doubleheader second main from the 2019 Springfield Mile. This is one of the best races of any kind I've ever seen. Jared Mees comes from a last place start (penalty spot) and moves up to make this a great race, but not just because of him. 130+ off the straights and sliding down to 100 in the corners while all bunched up, I don't understand why this doesn't get the same kind of air time as NASCAR. For just turning left, this is way more fun, IMO.

(494 posts)The big American twins or the 650 Yamaha?
I like the Yahmaheezers,lol

(9,663 posts)Yamaha in the late 60's and 70's but since those days are over, the American twins seem to rule. Indian has made some strides to try and displace HD's XR dominance. I'll sometimes root for the occasional Ducati or other twin when they qualify but anymore, I just cheer on a good race.
I had a friend sliding around on a punched up Yamaha 750 flat tracker way back when. That sucker was fast in a torquey, tractable way but it seemed to break more often than even a Brit bike.
I always wanted to get my hands on an old, worn out XR and turn it into a street tracker, but my street riding days are pretty much over.
