It feels like my birthday

There are still 6 days left before pay day, and this is when we start to run out of things--like fresh produce.

Our neighbors told us that a program in the town next to us gives away 20 lb boxes of produce every Wednesday. We went and got one.

Bag of potatoes
Bag of oranges
Bag of onions
Bag of apples
3 green peppers
PKG of romaine
3 tomatoes
4 pears
1 cucumber
1 cantaloupe

We live paycheck to paycheck, and seriously pinch pennies. I can't tell you what a help this is.

I'm SOOOO happy right now!

Nothing like fresh produce! And it can be so expensive.

Was talking to a friend on the phone this morning who was happy over being able to receive a watermelon at a local food giveaway. There is such a need for this now.

Fresh produce especially this time of year is a treat. Glad you got a cantaloupe, too, that’s a real treat.

we had a benevolent dictator instead of Lard Ass.

Instead of just giving money to Corporate Farmers, he would have given them money, only if they planted produce and distributed it to good banks across this nation.........Sorta like FDR's work programs......

Given the situation we are in, thx to the RepubliCONs, If Biden is elected, and we won the Senate, many of FDR's programs would be reviewed and instituted once again......Including the regulations that have been thrown out by the RepubliCONs these past forty years.

...it's a great service to localities. Glad you could take advantage of that town's program.

I've pointed this out before, but bears repeating - every dollar contributed to a food bank pays for more than TWO meals! Contributions go so far to help people.

Not bragging, but so far this year I've contributed several times since February. Those who can should!

when I grew up times were sometimes lean but never did I EVER wonder when my next meal would be - I just cannot imagine the feeling, especially for a child, and so I donate regularly to my local food bank

...a number of people in our neighborhood were much poorer and they did have to rely on assistance (pre-"welfare&quot Seeing that had a lasting effect on me, and has become one of my "causes".

my mum once mentioned how I would lose sweaters and mittens when I was a kid - I told her mum, I didn't lose them, I gave them to the poor kids....she said my dad suspected that was what I was doing. He grew up during the depression and lots of us Boomers knew how poverty can leave long lasting scars.

Later in life they didn't threw away old warm clothes, they kept them in the trunk of their car. If they saw a poor homeless person freezing on the street, they'd stop and give him a coat or sweater. They did this well into their 80s.

Saints, both of them!

and needs massive reforms. I just got a bill from my daughters doctor for a colncopy (sp) which is a Pap smear with biopsy. Doc charges were around $6,000 which insurance paid about $6500 and they want another $500 from her, a nursing student. Just horrible.

many years ago. For a small contribution each participant got groceries and it really helped.

The SHARE program is national so check for it in your area. A quick search yielded these results:
