I'm in Detroit and it's been crazy every night for the last three months. From 9:30 until well past midnight. And we're talking some major explosions. But hey, it's not like anyone is going to enforce it!

(196,498 posts)At least a tease on it. Apparently people are going nuts with fireworks already. Finally out of the house (really?) and blowing off steam? Maybe. Yosemite Sam? Possibly.

(CNN) It's not just you -- there's a sudden wave of fireworks exploding in cities across the US

I know that because of dry conditions the city fireworks have been cancelled. Not sure to what extent there will be any attempt to crack down on unsanctioned fireworks.

(10,497 posts)tents in the suburbs, just over the border with the city. The legislature made fireworks legal a couple of years ago over the objections of most cities and urban legislators.
Its only legal to use fireworks just a few days prior to July 4 but the law is impossible to enforce.
My neighbor isnt too bad but there are a lot of complaints in other neighborhoods.
From the article I read, people are using commercial grade fireworks, which require a permit, in places like NYC.
I have a friend whose dog was outside and got his collar caught on their picket fence while freaking out during a super loud barrage of noise. They found him dead when they returned from a ball game.
Neighborhood is pretty sedate anyway

(102,795 posts)But most everyone outside of town isn't into it because of fire hazard.
not here ..
but there is a group that has a show every independence day that is secret,
usually held in a clandestine location that rivals any sanctioned fireworks display
i've been to a few, but have lost touch with them over the years, so..
i suspect this year will be even more hidden

(26,856 posts)Oh, it started late May; way more frequent, earlier and bigger/louder 8pm till 3AMish+. It really crescendoed over the weekend, and this Monday - then suddenly dropped by 90% back down to it's normal amount for 8 days out from 4th of July.
Thank goodness!

(26,016 posts)Started with visual fireworks on Memorial day. People shooting flares and sparklers into the air. Official fireworks had been cancelled.
Then firecrackers, mostly at night, sometimes during the day. Increasing frequency and length of time for the past 2 weeks, long into the night. Multiple ones from different locations.
