Since there's no dream interpretation forum, I think that I'll post this here...

Especially since it's still fresh in my mind.

I dreamt that I was somewhere in Europe...

The scenario morphed into what I think was a street in downtown Amsterdam, somewhere in the past. And I was walking around, I noticed that a lot of people of diverse ethnic backgrounds, with many very beautiful women were walking around in festive attire. Some were dressed in gowns and others were dressed like Pagliacci the Clown, while everyone else was dressed in regular contemporary street clothes. The general atmospheric mood was happy and carefree.

The streets had lights hanging overhead and the windows were all well lit, the shops and gathering places were all full and everyone seemed quite joyful. I also felt quite happy being back in Amsterdam once again.

So as I walked further down the street, I noticed an open door way, it seemed inviting, yet unadorned. So I walked through that doorway into a long workspace like room and made my way to a desk by a wall with a computer on it. Since there was no one around, I decided to help myself to sending an email to someone. I don't recall what the message's content was, but when I finished sending it, someone came into the room and confronted me using their computer.

Of course, I felt guilty for coming into their place uninvited and using their property, but since I didn't know why I would do that, I also didn't know what to say. And right from behind that person appeared none other than actor Gene Hackman walking into the room. I realized that this was his space and I had used his computer. And then I did something that I've rarely ever do in my dreams and it quite disturbed me... I lied.

I looked straight into Gene Hackman's face, which had a scowl of disbelief, and I told him that I was a "freelancer," and I was passing through town from Italy, I wanted to talk to him about his movie. Of course, his reaction was as if I was full of it and I was, of course. Especially when I said that I was very interested in writing about a "small production," a phrase that he had repeated incredulously under his breath.

To get out of this pickle that I put myself in, instead of just walking out, I asked Gene Hackman if I could have one of his business cards, because I had to leave town. He seemed to oblige that request and asked me to follow him to a back room. Once inside the room, he went to a tall file cabinet, and instead of a business card, he pulled out a piece of production swag for his movie. It was a long cotton nightshirt with the name his movie and a newspaper review printed on it. Down the shirt was also box office information printed on it. In large letters at the top of the shirt was emblazoned, "AMERICAN HEAT," and a synopsis of the movie.

I also noticed that there were holes torn underneath the sleeves of the shirt as I held it in from of me. Clearly, this piece of swag lacked any value to Hackman, other than to confront me with it. At that point I had realized that I had been caught in me lie, especially since Gene Hackman also produced a pistol from the very same file cabinet and asked me to leave. So yes, I was ready to go.

As he was escorting me out, there was a open parachute lying on the floor, blocking our path. I stopped before reaching it, because I was concerned with getting tripped up in the lines. Hackman had bent over and started adjusting the lines of the parachute with his pistol. At this point I was beginning to really panic... So I woke up.

Alright...

What do y'all's say?

a psychoanalyst and he was terrific at dream analysis.

He would have been quite impressed with the detail of the recall of your dream. Me, too!

Unfortunately, I have no idea what it means. What do you think it means?

Because, otherwise, if it was just another one of my happy dreams about Amsterdam, I wouldn't have recalled that much about it after I woke up.

I just don't understand why I would lie to Gene Hackman like that. And why Gene Hackman of all people. It's not as if his name came up for me lately.

I think that I was paying some price for being generally happy in a place that I loved and being careless about it.

Beautiful women, everyone happy & festive, carefree. Open doorway leading to empty room opposite of festive, carefree. Not belonging there yet staying. Shirt with holes, imperfections. Parachute lines tripped or feeling of trapped web of a spider. Possible fear of current political dysfunction, pandemic, BLM feeling out of control? Wanting to return to happy and festive feeling frustration yet ready to exit the room through the open door & pistol as warning, but as what? Unable to reenter prior festivities and back to normal? Dreams are all about symbols. Sometimes they are perfectly transparent and sometimes our brains like to keep secrets until a later time..

you in regular life. Like what do beautiful women mean to you. Festive costumes?

You'll get to the bottom of it. It's like your mind is acting out a play with a message.

When I do recall them, they’re often like the dream you describe. They’re about guilt. In them, I am beating myself up for something I DIDN’T DO. I have to wake myself fully and remind myself that I didn’t actually do what I had just dreamed and that there’s no way on Earth I would ever have done such a thing.

And it’s often just a minor thing. Borrowing somebody’s computer to send an email is NO BIG DEAL, right? Nobody really got hurt, but you still felt enormous guilt about having invaded someone’s personal space (and you need to remember that you didn’t actually do that). You just dreamt that you did. You’re beating yourself up for NOTHING that you actually did. The dream pattern you describe is very familiar to me.

My guess is that one or both of your parents and one or more of your siblings suffers from a Cluster B personality disorder. You have been punished for things you didn’t actually do all your life. You were the family scapegoat. When anything went wrong, you got the blame. You still blame yourself for things that are not your fault. You are subconsciously working through a lifetime of injustice.

Just wake up and remember. You didn’t do what you dreamed. You are innocent of MOST of the crimes people have accused you of committing. The ones you actually did commit, you have apologized for and have tried to make amends. You do not have to be perfect. Nobody is. You have had one or more “perfect people” (only in their own minds) criticizing you all your life, and that is an enormous weight to bear. You are simply working through that lifelong (and possibly continuing) trauma.

He has a face that one wants to like and trust, but it's not always easy... and sometimes very dangerous.

I'm thinking "Unforgiven", "French Connection", and "Crimson Tide."

You left a festive, happy place to illicitly send an email. You got caught lying about it, and had trouble escaping.

It sounds like you think you need to spend less time on the computer?

than a dream.

So much detail, especially the conscious decisions to do certain things.

The reason I say this is because, personally, I do a lot of crazy stuff in my dreams, but I never question them at the time, at least not until I wake up anyway.

Gene Hackman to me represents that character in the French Connection that had to battle incredible odds to bring down a drug lord, and maybe subconsciously, you feel the same way.

Anyway, that's my take on it.

... the new focus being not intruding on other people's personal space, not touching things. Doing simple things can now be seen as a threat to others.

Repeating the phrase, ''small production'' might represent not enough being done about the current situation in America.

The long nightshirt printed with all the information about ''the production'', including reviews, might represent the American Dream story being told, but there are visible holes in the story, the fabric is coming apart.

The parachute might represent feeling having escaped death, landing safely, but escaping the parachute scene in the dream also involves a gun clearing the way.
