And knocking things to the floor, of course.

(16,616 posts)This happens with dogs too, sometimes.
The more expensive the toy, the less they like it. But the junky $2 dollar thing from Walmart you can hardly stand to look at? It's their favorite!!

(10,749 posts)My cats wonder why Amazon keeps sending them cat beds.
In other weirdness. We have three cats. My wife loves one of them and tolerates the other two. And they know it. My side of the bed is closer to the door. The Maine Coon walks under the bed, jumps up on her side of the bed and walks across her head to settle down on a pillow set aside for her on my side of the bed. She (wife, not cat) also puts up a larger pillow as a cat barrier so that he stays on my side of the bed. He then settles down on the cat barrier. They are most entertaining.

(585 posts)What's your opinion on Maine Coons?
How does he compare to your other cats?
Thanks for any advice.

(22,509 posts)should get him......because you said so.....kind of.
He needs a home.

(10,749 posts)One is a barn cat, still mostly feral after ten years. The other is at home. Hes a rescue weve had now for almost 7 years. Hes great. Very independent, except when he wants to crawl into bed. Hes usually the last of our six creatures to come in at night. Apart from that, not really much of a lap cat. My son had a Maine coon for About 7 years before she died last year. He was absolutely smitten with that cat.

(585 posts)Your input is most appreciated.
So far I've only seen the cat's website photo, but he's really a stunner. I need to call the shelter & ask if they'll let me meet him (as they're currently closed to the public) to see how big he is!
Thanks again for your help!

(3,818 posts)I think I had a Maine Coon that came to me as a stray. A beautiful kitty, lovely personality. They have a reputation for trilling and chirping which is really cool, the cat I had did that -- I didn't know cats could make noises like that! I love the large long-haired cats: Norwegian Forest Cats, Maine Coons and Siberians. I'm on a FB group for Siberians and another called This Cat is From the Forest (for the three breeds). No doubt there is one for Maine Coons too. The reason I have Siberians as opposed to the other two, is that Siberians are less allergenic than some other breeds of cats and DH is or was allergic to cats. He has no problems with our three and seems to have overcome his allergies with other cats now too. I hope to have a Maine Coon again some day.

(1,336 posts)IOW, just because you bought "this thing" for me doesn't mean I'll give you the satisfaction of liking it and showing my appreciation!
However, many decades ago, my husband built a cat tree for our two cats and they loved it. But when we moved 25 years later, it didn't move with us and so we bought one. No way! Not good enough! Store-bought! Not touching it!
Go figure. Cats are inscrutable and will always be so.

(6,945 posts)was covered with your hubby's scent- at least until they covered it with their own.
Perhaps if he, say, slept with the store-bought one for a week or two?
(Not a serious suggestion.)

(49,091 posts)Ignoring all cat beds but two that are really too small for him now, beds that he was given as a kitten, which I'd've thrown out years ago if he didn't still love them.
One of several larger cat beds I got him that I ended up giving away looked just like the bed with the striped edge in the 6th picture there.

Hilarious!!!
We've been there several times! Bob currently loves the long flattened out length of brown packing paper that came out of some shipping box recently. Cat toys all over the room and he wants that piece of paper. And he's just about loved it to death. It's now scraps of paper.

(65,526 posts)loves the white thing you tear off from a bag of cat litter. I tie it in a knot and throw it for her. Tico goes nuts when I fold a small piece of cardboard and toss it for him. I have a big bin full of toys they don't want to play with.

(50,323 posts)I've got 2 cats so I bought 2 beds, but despite lures of treats and cajoling, neither will use them. Oh, well. Maybe the shelter can use them.
But your cats will complain when they're gone!

(50,323 posts)I still get teary eyed over one guy who died 11 years ago. I especially miss him in the summer because he'd hang out in the vegetable garden with me. My oldest cat now is 20 and her younger brother is 10. It makes me sad that these will probably be my last kitties since I worry about dying before they do and not having anyone to take them in.

(1,040 posts)... the plastic cap off a 2-liter soda bottle (when we used to drink soda). Would bounce it against the kitchen cabinets and chase it all over the kitchen. When we got a new refrigerator we moved the old one out and there were over 20 caps he'd knocked back there ... lol.

(21,731 posts)paper bags led to one of my few successful purchases, a tunnel set with a cube "house" to connect them to.
The tunnels and cube were around $5 each from Walmart. I bought them one at a time to see if she liked them. She loves to dive inside of them to "hide" (with her tail hanging out). Or to rush out and ambush my legs. Or just to snooze in them.
They used to be connected (just slip the end of a tunnel into a cube hole). But she pulled one tunnel loose and now drags them to various places for feline espionage on my activities.
