Working in the basement

Yesterday, I was able to reach some boxes I haven't looked in for 4 years. The boxes were on a table. I keep a dehumidifier going and that part of the basement stays very dry. One of the boxes had all of the letters people wrote to me over the years. I knew they were here somewhere, just not where they used to be. Letters from my husband, my kids, the exchange students we hosted and kids we met over the years, my best friend, my mom. Really, that bag of letters means so much to me and they will be back in the closet in my bedroom. It is hot again today, so I will be heading down there soon.

How wonderful to unexpectedly find old letters, kind of like being thrown a surprise party. FM123 Jul 2020 #1

When my husband got sick and we moved back to this house, our kids packed a lot of the stuff and moved it for us. I appreciated the help. But, I used to know where everything was, at least what room, no more.

When I was working in my bedroom, I knew that the bag of letters was not with other papers that I kept, but didn't really look for them. I have a short list of things I'd like to see again (LOL) and if I clear that list, as far as I'm concerned, the rest of the stuff can go!

And I am going through things in my basement, too! What a treasure trove you have there. I love reading old letters. Wish I’d kept more of them like you have.

My husband’s aunt (his dad’s sister) kept all the letters his dad wrote home when he was stationed in the Philippines in WW2. We have them now. They are very interesting.

I have my Dad's letters to my Mom. I read part of one. I thought I'd wait awhile longer to read any more. God, if they got personal! lol
