Roma tomatoes?

I have been making grilled Bruschetta Chicken which calls for chopped Roma tomatoes.

But I have been having hard time with them spoiling after a couple of days on the counter.

Earlier, I saw spots around the stems so I just cut the tops off. But the other day one of them just collapsed as a wet mess. I had regular vine on tomatoes, local, and used one instead.

What is so special about Roma tomatoes?

They seem to hold up a little better. I think they have more flavor than Roma too.

Bruschetta sounds yummy today.

There are fewer seeds and less moisture, so they retain their shape in dishes instead of dissolving. They taste the same, so if a recipe calls for Roma tomatoes and I don't have them, I really don't see much of a difference.

but,you folks are on the tail end of the fresh Produce supply chain. Roma's here will last at least a week, they are usually gone with in a that time anyway. Never buy your Produce at Walmart, they have and will always be the worse for shelf life.

Try Cub,Kroger,or even Aldi. A truck load of Tomatoes takes 30 hours in transit.

Check for Tomatoes coming from Illinois,Indiana, and Ohio. Their Harvest should be in full swing.

an excellent choice for sandwiches and sauces. All the scientific research tells us that refrigeration is bad for tomatoes and ripe tomatoes are best when stored on the counter... if you can use them within a couple of days.

After that tomatoes deteriorate rapidly. So after my Roma tomatoes are ripe and if I'm not going to use them, I put them in the fridge. I know they will lose some flavor and they will get softer and a bit more watery, but that's an acceptable tradeoff to throwing out a lot of tomatoes.

If you can let your refrigerated tomatoes sit on the counter to warm up to room temp the flavor will improve. When slicing Roma tomatoes that are juicier than you want, just let them drain out on some paper towels for a few minutes and they will be fine.

They're not as sweet as the tomatoes grown in the dark soil in my area (which seemingly aren't sold nationally), but the Roma is definitely meatier and not as wet.

I've never noticed Roma tomatoes being more fragile than any other tomato. However, recently I've had to sacrifice taste and keep my tomatoes in the fridge because of the damn fruit flies. They will turn your tomatoes into a nice soggy mess. Ugh.
