Woman takes selfie as wild bear sniffs her hair
Footage shows a brown bear pawing at an amazingly calm park visitor in a tense encounter believed to have unfolded at the Chipinque Ecological Park in Mexico. Many experts and park staff encourage humans not to interact with wildlife in parks when possible.

That girl is lucky to still have all her parts and pieces intact.

(5,914 posts)That bear has been fed by people before. He was very comfortable around those women.

(28,120 posts)Being familiar with black bears, I know this one is used to people & has been fed. This is dangerous.

(11,885 posts)And was very lucky she wasn't attacked, but the next person maybe won't be, and why in National parks it often causes them to be killed . These are very unpredictable wild animals that are dangerous, and often turn on people when they don't get fed .

Very dangerous situation regardless and I hope someone wise educated that girl on the risks.

(38,311 posts)... of a family hanging out with bears at Yosemite. (I don't know who they are, I found the photos in a thrift store.)
Dad's obviously taking the photo, oblivious to the danger.
Black bears are fairly mild mannered until they are not.
Bears sometimes rip open cars looking for food, just as they'd rip open an old log looking for grubs.

(14,490 posts)of people being attacked on park trails because mother bears felt their cubs were threatened. Bears regularly rip up camp sites and break into cars looking for food, partly caused by humans feeding them.
The park has lots of "Do Not Feed the Bears" signs but people will be stupid regardless and behave like they are just big cute teddy bears.

(9,888 posts)I have been to Yellowstone twice, the Smokies twice, and have never seen so much as the disappearing tail of a bear. I think I may be destined not to see a bear.

(1,832 posts)Very nice ones with a good caretaker. They were all sharing a lot of berries when we met. But those two had grown up with humans.
