(11,845 posts)except via FaceTime, since Christmas 2019. I wonder if we will be able to visit this Chirstmas/Hannukah. This is the saddest thing of all for me. They are young women, 12 and 15 and this is the longest time we've been apart since I held them in my arms as newborns.
They live two states away and it would be no problem to make the drive before covid. Now that drive is a minefield of risks and they themselves have not been isolating.

(153,141 posts)because we moved overseas sometimes, I would not see my grandparents on one side for years, then my grandparents on the other side for years - I could not talk to them either, way too expensive.......I would send them snail mail, and draw the outline of my hand on the back of the envelope. Now at work, I instant message / Skype with people all over the world.

(9,650 posts)What is this 'Christmas' thing you speak of?
Seriously, I haven't celebrated Christmas since my parents passed away. I have no family left. And I'm sure as heck not doing all that work for myself. 3 days to put the tree up, at least three days to take it down. No thanks. No more Christmas at my house. I'm Scrooge.
