In one case, the kittens were born a month later. In another, the shelter called about the cat I was going to foster. They went to pick her up to be spayed, and she had 5 kittens.

We call it Rescue Math, a riff on Douglas Adams' Bistro Math. Rescue Math says that the only number of cats, gender of cats, age of cats that your soon-to-be fosters cannot be is the number, gender, and age you were quoted.

I wish my one rescue cat would allow me to add another, but he's pretty fierce, bless his little heart.
