"It is time to take you on another trip to the National Trail Raceway in Ohio and watch a cool 1/4 mile drag race where a Plymouth Belvedere goes up against a Chevy Chevelle. Check out the RPM Army video to see the action filmed during the annual Night of Thunder drag racing event.

Article doesn't say the year of each car, tho they've been modified for drag.
Chevelle slant front grill looks to be maybe a '69..my guess
Cool contribution for today..🙂

(7,508 posts)that is my era. That is also the very definition of a hole shot. Drag raced everything I had from about 1962. till 68. Some stuff my dad had also.

My 1st car was a sapphire blue 69 Chevelle.
I never raced it on main street, but didn't miss the chance to take the lead at the green light. It was a thrill!
Except for the Vette next to me. I just let him lead & admired him for it.
What days they were. 🙂

(13,920 posts)Agree.. We would hotrod anything.. We even put a 289 into a small British sports car ala cobra. 1200 lbs and about 225 hp goes REALLY fast. Stock Ford f150 with a 427? What fun!!

(14,494 posts)Plymouth (nearest to camera) won at 10.82 sec. (?) even though he started after the Chevy?
In my day in the 60s, Plymouth Fury, Shelby Mustang and Chevy 'Vette, Camaro and El Camino with big V8s were hot stuff but only a very few rich kids owned them (thanks to their daddy). I never even got to drive one of those 'cause college!
My best "fun" car ever was a '65 Impala SS coupe with a 4bbl 327........then the 'family' thing came along......

(7,508 posts)I raced a 63 Catalina for a while. But then a 66 427 Vette. Never beaten on street. and never in class on drag strip. Was beaten once in street eliminator class. Did a little top end work as the weak point was valve springs. L/88 springs and multi angle valve job and it was unbeatable and indestructible.
The Figment
(494 posts)You can tell by the trim right behind the front bumper that goes from the headlight nacelle to the front of the wheel opening, 69's didn't have that piece of chrome trim
