Of course, the difference between an Oldsmobile and a Buick was like this. (Holds thumb and index finger barely apart).

No, Buick is still around. You may be thinking of Pontiac or Saturn, which shut down in the 2009 financial debacle.

in 2010 when the second-generation Lacrosse came out, but GM really hit it out of the park on that redesign. Best car I've owned to date, including Hondas, an Acura, and two Lexuses, plus others. My 2010 Lacrosse has over 210K miles and shows no signs of wearing out. It's relegated to emergency backup vehicle now with the purchase of my all-electric Chevy Bolt, but I sill love the Buick.

China saved this brand. For reasons unknown to people around here, lots of folks in China were really attached to the Buick brand, so sales there were strong. That is the sole reason GM chose to shutter Oldsmobile instead of Buick.

Dad died in 2013, Mom in 2018, but the last Buick Dad bought is still there while we're finishing clearing the house. The Buick and Mom's 1976 Cadillac Sedan DeVille give the illusion someone is still living there. Plus my sister fills the Buick with stuff that she takes to donate to the local thrift shop once the car is full.

Funny you say 1958 - my first car was a 1958 Buick Special that my grandmother bought new that year. When she replaced it 1ith a 1964 Buick, she gave the old one to my parents. Then Mom got a newer car in 1968 and since I was old enough to drive, I got the Buick.

It was a cool car - emerald green with a white roof, four door sedan big enough to carry eight (or more) friends, with a trunk big enough for two bales of hay and four bags of horse feed. Or even two or three bodies.

I've owned a Volvo, a Ford, a Toyota, and a Renault, and somehow always come back to Buick - 4 of them. Like the quality; like the ride.

It's a great, reliable car and gets good gas mileage. They are made in China or Korea now,
What's called a domestic import.
