Someone once said (can't remember who), "Most comedy is just tragedy plus time."
It only took a week after 9/11 for the first joke to come out.
I can't remember who told the joke, or the circumstances, but about the same time, there was a big hullaballoo going on about Chandra Levy's disappearance and Congressman Gary Condit's complicity in it.
Remember this is a week after 9/11, but as the joke goes, people were so enthralled with that story, that even if Gary Condit jumped on the stage and confessed to her murder, everyone would tell him to sit down and shut up, or turn the channel for more juicy 9/11 news.
It actually got a big laugh.
And then, he made it even funnier when he added, "What? Too soon?"
