A few years later, I bought a '55 Chevy 2 door coupe with a 409 in it (It leaked oil a little)
I sold it to a stock car racer, who was going to fiberglass the front end & drop in a new engine.

The nicest Chevy I ever had was '65 Chevy Malibu 2 dr hardtop with a 327 & a 4 speed,
That was a gorgeous car!

Mine was anything but elegant.
1966 Caprice Wagon 396 Rochester Quadrajet
Dual exhaust
4 speed M-21 (from the factory!)
3.08 posi rear
L78-15 oversized tires (equivalent to P235/75-15)
I think it was a bit over 4000 lbs.

Changed motor mounts 3 times one year.

Bought it from my cousin who worked at my uncle's shop for $325.
On the highway usually about 18 mpg.
In the city maybe 9. (If there was good music on, more like 6.)
But gas was like 75 cents/gal.

No stereo but I installed an aftermarket 8-track and put a pair on Fisher speakers in back.
The best of times.

...that being some kind of project car. I'm not sure of the exact issue. I suspect motor mounts to accommodate a V-8 where a flat 6 was designed to be. You're probably right about it being a challenge getting the taller engine to fit above the drive train and under body panels and window.

Of course there's a radiator to consider as well...
