Lately, I've had a craving for a cereal that I haven't eaten in probably 50 years:
I remember this was lightly sweetened and something I could shovel into my mouth so easily that a box would magically empty in one sitting. There's was also another cereal, more like a dessert, that was only on the market for a short while, and when it disappeared from the cereal aisle, it was a traumatic experience for a prepubescent kid:
As I got older, my father expanded his breakfast repertoire beyond Shredded Wheat and Cheerios to something sweeter; I co-opted his new choice as my own new favorite:
For me, many of my childhood memories revolve around the breakfast table and Saturday morning cartoons. I'm sure I wasn't alone. What cereals do you wish would return to the shelves?

(9,670 posts)It was like there was tiny piece of milk or white chocolate in every "pillow" of cereal. As a kid, I loved it. As an adult, it would be way, way too sweet, except as a snack maybe.

(1,301 posts)I remember the commercials with the two competing cereals, Quisp and Quake. We always chose Quisp. Maybe it was the little outer space creature that won us over. I cant even remember what they tasted like though.

(7,612 posts)It was orange-flavored and they called it Quangaroos. Their icon for the commercials was Simon the Quangaroo.

(3,266 posts)I just remember the jingle King Vitaman, have breakfast with the King. And you know what, I was today years old before I realized it was pronounced VitaMAN! Never knew that before seeing this commercial!

(9,258 posts)Best cereal EVER and healthy too. Was hoping theyd bring it back during the oat bran craze a while back but no. Ive tried the recommended substitutes (usually organic something-or-other) but nothing out there tastes remotely like it.

(4,483 posts)Like corn flakes but somehow with more substance. If you ever find any, buy a dozen boxes for me! I'll reimburse, pay for shipping and buy you a star membership for a year.

(9,670 posts)Now I feel incredibly cruel. I know how much it would mean for me to be reunited with my old favorite cereals! Shoot, I even wrote an OP about it!

Never a fan myself - always tore up my mouth! - but they're as American as...as...Apple Jacks.

(4,919 posts)Sorry for the false alarm, maybe.
I love cereal that tears up my mouth... Cap'n Crunch, for example.

(16,376 posts)Simple sugar-coated rice except much better than the frosted rice they have out now. It had a racist box, though.

(9,670 posts)The new Frosted Rice tastes fake. Why do they mess with a winning formula?

(16,376 posts)I think it was more about the texture, though. The frosted rice they sell now doesn't hold a candle.

(3,618 posts)even though the look of the cereal box was etched in my memory: Baron von Redberry. He was a WWI flying ace with a penchant for sugary, berry-flavored cereal. His nemesis was Sir Grapefellow. If memory serves I very much liked the Baron's cereal and was pretty 'meh' about Grapefellow. Grape flavored cereal doesn't sound the least bit appealing today.
