The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI got the flu and pneumonia shots today.
I did get a full headache after the shot but I know from my mother-in-law that is a side effect she gets. Naturally they told me my arm would be sore. If just seems the soreness is becoming more intense. Is that normal? I took two aleve.
Wasn't sure where to post it.

(29,688 posts)The more you move your arms, the sooner the soreness will subside. I always tell my teenage patients that, and encourage them not to indulge in pity parties because their arms ache.
Use em, use em, use em!

(970 posts)Every time I have gotten a flu shot, my arm seemed to stay pretty sore for 3 or 4 days.
(I would check with my doctor, though, if the site became red, hot, and swollen.)

(816 posts)Also taking a page from a friend's book. She going to the store she will pick up OTCs before the rush happens. She is out shopping pick up food and cough. Pick up a third pack of toilet paper while she is getting weekly grocies. She isn't going crazy but with the Dr one wave coming why go shopping crazy she you can billed up an emergency stock pile.

(29,397 posts)and my arm was sore for a couple days (worse than a tetanus shot). It also got red and quite warm - all normal reactions. It they don't get better after a couple days, call your doctor.

(2,097 posts)With people wearing masks, I wonder if it will have an impact on our flu numbers? Last year the flu shot missed the mark pretty badly. Maybe this year the numbers will be lower even if the flu shot misses the mark again. Just curious.

(24,715 posts)It used to be a "badge of honor" to go to work while suffering from flu. I think that has changed, which is good. Also, many people who "work through" the flu, will do it at home.
It seems the flu should spread "less" this year. I'm getting a shot anyway.

(2,097 posts)I wasnt advocating against a flu shot, BTW, just to be clear. But since there are times it misses the mark, hopefully masks and hand washing will help keep the numbers low anyway.
What I see are people flocking to get tested if they get sick with flu, worrying they have COVID. Thankfully they have instant tests for flu so they can check for flu first and screen all flu sufferers out first. Though it is possible to get bothOMG, why did I say that?

Namaste!
Not looking forward to vaccine-denial season. We got our flu vaccine late last week, and have begun vaccinating our patients. No refusals yet, thank God. I'll hope for the best...

(16,973 posts)Oddly, this is the first time, ever, my arm has not gotten sore. I've felt no effects at all. I hope it took and I'll get an immune response.
