But I've been too busy to get very far.

I love how the new trailer has some Pink Floyd in the background.

A different musical group would score each planet/house in Jodos plan.
In some ways it's better that Jodos project fell apart, the technology was not really there
to do what he wanted never mind the fact that his version would not have been close to Herberts.
But Orson Welles as the Baron?! Dali as the Emperor? It would have been quite a spectacle.

I don't really care for Jodorowskys films as a viewer, but I do find him to be a quite compelling character.

It was ambitious, but it wouldn't have been terribly faithful to the book.

Another interesting aside: Jodorowsky was going to have Charlotte Rampling play Lady Jessica. In Villeneuve's film, Rampling is playing the Reverend Mother Mohiam.

That was outstanding. I would have loved that. It is sad that movies like that are not really marketable here, or maybe they are but they would not make enough for the studio? I know nothing about it but except that looked like a really fun movie to watch.

Waiting for the next with baited breath!

I really liked the first movie. It certainly had its problems but I loved the book and thought it was pretty cool. I have been waiting since they first announced this was being planned. Comes out right after my birthday and we always do a family outing of dinner and a movie with whoever can come. This time they will all like my choice! Great looking cast. Oh boy. I think I shall re-read the books. It is nice to have something to look forward to.

I think I liked the SyFy miniseries more. If for no other reason than being more faithful to the source. And I loved the follow-up Children of Dune.

have some catching up to do! I knew nothing about a miniseries. I don't think I ever thought to watch Children of Dune. I really must revisit this, I loved the books but did not finish them.

I loved the book when I was in high school & the movie came out my senior year of high school. Too many changes from the book for me, but otherwise a pretty good adaptation of a tough book to put on screen. I remember that there was another release later on (Maybe VHS back in the day?) that added a narration to the start that gave a non book reader more background and I thought it made it better overall.

I remember liking the SyFy miniseries more, but nothing has stuck with me about it over the years.

"That lad has chops. I think we'll see more of him."

The biggest problem with Lynch's Dune was trying to stuff the book into one feature length film.

movie studios didn't think like they did with Lord of the Rings & Peter Jackson making it into 3 movies. Dune is dense enough to be made into two movies that are a good 2.5 to 3 or so hours apiece. or even three movies.

(of course, I also Jackson went overboard with taking the 300 page Hobbit and making that into 3 movies)

That just might do it. One hopes.

Also hope they're more than just monsters, battles and eye candy. Herbert's ideas need to be address: Mess with the environment and it tends to mess back and beware of the charismatic. They can screw up just the rest of us.
