I see shoes in the breezeway a lot

otherwise, I'm not sure why shoes would be outside

From the "American Bird Conservancy"

Cats #1 Threat to Birds
Predation by domestic cats is the number-one direct, human-caused threat to birds in the United States and Canada.

In the United States alone, outdoor cats kill approximately 2.4 billion birds every year. Although this number may seem unbelievable, it represents the combined impact of tens of millions of outdoor cats. Each outdoor cat plays a part.

The article goes on to say "Even well fed cats kill birds".

PLEASE! KEEP YOUR CATS INDOORS!

The number that cats kill is puny compared to the number of birds killed by glass collisions.

Approximately 365 million to 1 billion, with a estimated 599 million birds are killed with collisions with windows each year.

Far less than cats.

But I doubt this particular cat is doing much hunting if he's walking nine miles a night collecting shoes, which seem to be his only prey.

In the US alone there are 60-100 MILLION un owned cats.

They kill 6.3 - 22.3 BILLION mammals a year.

Feral cats account for 69% of all killed birds. That means your loved free roaming pet is killing over 30% of birds killed by cats each year.

I understand you love them, just keep them INDOORS!

They have occasionally killed and eaten mice that got into the house but they have never been allowed out to hunt.
