(28,787 posts)of being alone in a hotel room in Philadelphia watching the returns, panicking, going to DU and watching it disappear right in front of my eyes.
jeez that was a lonely night. I called people, frantic, who were on the west coast and didn't really believe me or have any way to comfort me. My hotel was evacuated FFS, and I wandered all the way around the block, fretting, fretting, fretting. DU was gone for weeks to come.
Trump won. I can still hardly believe it. As catastrophic as I knew his presidency would be, he has succeeded in going lower than I even imagined.

(6,147 posts)It's a work day.
In 2016, I did not stay up. I went to bed around 9, and figured whatever happened would be discovered in the morning.
The next morning, I went to work and innocently said "Who won?" Expecting to hear that we had elected a woman president. "Trump won." greeted me. I did not cry. I think I said "Oh." Like to have taken the wind out of my sails.
I do not know what November 4th will be like. I know what I HOPE it will be like, but after 2016, all I know for sure is that I will be working.

(28,787 posts)monitoring for a clinical trial. When I returned for the following visit, I discovered that I had not done very good work that day. I was utterly distraught.
I expect Biden to win. But if not, I won't be blindsided again; I'll be getting ready to hit the streets covid or no covid, because the only way trump wins is if he cheats.

(15,385 posts)I could never miss out on seeing the results come in state by state. Had to be up by 8:00 though, it wasn't pretty.

(4,858 posts)...and I'll be on the brink of catatonia. Trump will have declared victory, Biden in fact will have won handily, the "media" will be both-sidering with a vengeance, mass confusion over ballots and mail-in voting, cries of fraud and cheat and treason from the Right...the beginning of an 1876-style nightmare. (And pray God, let's hope it isn't an 1860 nightmare.) I devoutly hope I am wrong about this. But I'm afraid I'm not. We'll see...

(16,377 posts)I've already taken off work for both the 3rd and 4th. A little alcohol goes a long way with me, yet I intend to imbibe--hopefully, with Champagne. I usually have a small get together, although that is probably not going to happen this year.
