(115,679 posts)Maybe you could wait a bit before giving his things away. Just let yourself grieve for awhile, sleep a lot, and maybe when you're ready to package up those things, have a friend help out if you can.

(11,211 posts)Your broken heart comes through the internet and makes me want to come with tissues. Someone told me long ago to go out in the woods so I could cuss and cry or howl and smash things without having to think of anyone around.
Another idea given was to go to some place where you shared a happy moment. It can be near or far. Maybe his smile or laugh will appear in your head.

(115,679 posts)After my dad passed away we had to move his things out right away because he was in a rental senior apartment. So we had to sort through everything, give away clothes, etc., which was difficult so soon after he passed away. The senior facility had a library and they were glad to have his many books, and they also helped us with the furniture, much of which we donated to a rummage sale at the center. So many of those items had memories, though, and my siblings and I ended up keeping many more of them than we really needed. Things have meaning.
