Taxes raised on cell phones--at least mine was

Looks like about 2.47 per month on my bill due in Oct. Some Federal and some raises by the State.

Big deal...what's another 2.47? Yeah...except it never ends. Peeps who have COX watch what happens to your bill in probably Feb 2021. They skipped the usual raise this year and I'll bet they'll jack rates by 10% or more. I only have Internet with them so my bill could easily be another $9-10.00 per month early next year.

You can bank on that one........

$5 cheaper plan will NOT entice many to switch.

Those that do may NOT have choice due to their financials, they could switch carriers. That would surprise att

2. Your state is responsible for raising the state and/or GRT (gross receipts taxes), not the Feds

so voters like you (or perhaps your reps in your house legislature raised taxes), the feds, I'm not aware of any tax raising schemes, they had the 1% excise tax on phones for the longest time, but I'm not aware of any increased fed. tax rates, other than perhaps to expand the category of what's fed. taxable. Otherwise, you need to call them and demand why the tax rates went up. They have been known to make a mistake...I went through this once w/ my phone bill in the Lake of the Ozarks region, with Sprint telephone some years back, they had the wrong geographical code for me, thus pulled the wrong taxing numbers up when they created my phone bill for down there. I called, complained, they looked into, and discovered the issue, fixed, and rebated me my money paid in error.

See if these match your charges. Of course the State charges can differ quite a bit between States. Kansas is high but not the highest.

Fed Universal Service change .82 in June---2.09 in October
Regulatory Charge .15 in June--- .21 in October
Administrative Charge 1.78 in June---1.95 in October

KS Universal Service Fund
KS E-911 Fee
Kansas State Sls Tax-Telco
Sedgwick Cnty sls tax-Telco

5. I don't really see what fees that they charge, I use the $20 refill cards to refill my cell phone

usage every 3 months (straight talk), and I don't see what they nickel and dime me out of, but it seems like everything under the sun that they can charge for, they do. Like the regulatory charge...how many times do they need to go to the regulatory body in KS (the public service commission) for stuff? Ridiculous. Thanks for the heads up on the fees, taxes, and the kitchen sink charges (it seems like) on one's phone bill. It gets crazy doesn't it?

Take care of yourself and be safe!
