Street View of 1940s New York
Between 1939 and 1941, the Works Progress Administration collaborated with the New York City Tax Department to collect photographs of most buildings in the five boroughs of New York City.
In 2018, the NYC Municipal Archives completed the digitization and tagging of these photos.
This website places them on a map.
Zoom in! Every dot is a photo.
The photos on this site are property of the NYC Department of Records

This is so cool. I don't know NY but for those that do, you'll appreciate this.

(5,526 posts)It isn't just random photos of buildings. Those are the property records with the plat maps that have all the photos keyed to the actual parcel numbers.
As an engineer that deals with property records and old survey, that is a really cool find.
Thanks for posting that.

(13,904 posts)then went to the 1980's pic's and it still looked the same... It was a neat old place built in the 1860's. Marble fire place in each room. One front and one in the back room. Huge kitchen on the ground floor and a massive basement for all the coal..
