(34,136 posts)he was roaming around the countryside in the Kansas City suburbs. This dog has never had a bad day or he was just so thrilled to come home with people who were smitten with him. He is the biggest ball of love I have ever known. All the other animals around here love him too. We got him about a week after we had to put our beloved 7 year old standard poodle down because of tumors on his spleen and liver. Our household was just busted after that and our other dog was thrilled when she met Elvin. He is part Vizsla so we were watching for epilepsy and sure enough he has some massive, scary seizures but we have them under control now. He is the biggest baby and obviously I cannot stop talking about him. He sleeps right up against me. Woe to the person who approaches me without good intention. God I love this dog insanely. Rescues are special, we have had a lot of them. They are just special. This one has been easy and that is good.

(4,648 posts)After getting them healthy (both had worms and were a bit underweight) and adjusted to living in a home, both were exceptionally sweet, mellow, and loving. I always enjoyed visiting their house and hanging with the pups. We looked up Lunas track records and realized why they retired her, lol! She wasnt a very good racer.
If I could have a dog, I think a retired Greyhound would be a great option.

(6,812 posts)Mine are both rescues. Alexander is a Great Pyrenees. He will be two on October 23. Scout is a clever smarty pants. She is part German Shepard/Labrador/Pittie. She turned two on July 10. They are wonderful. There was a learning curve but we all survived and are happier for it. Be patient, you will be rewarded.

(63,221 posts)I love all dogs, but especially big dogs. She is just a sweetie! I am so glad she was rescued from that horrible racing life. The poor thing! I'm just so happy she got a second chance in life. She deserves it!
