I've reflected on the fact that I really like the taste of stew but rarely cook it. It's because I don't know how to serve it. There's the bowl/plate thing, and there's also the fork/spoon thing, which I'm posting separately.

(15,805 posts)Generally, stew has a lot of broth or gravy and small bite sized pieces of meat and veggies, so a bowl and spoon is necessary to get every drop. Some people still might want a knife and fork to cut up bigger pieces.
If you make a more rustic version of stew with large chunks of meat, big pieces of carrots and potatoes, then you might use a plate with knife and fork so everyone can cut their meat to size and smash the big veggies into the gravy to soak up all that goodness.
Some recipes call for the stew to be served over mashed potatoes, egg noodles, biscuits or sliced bread to soak up all that gravy, so a plate with knife and fork works best.

(34,661 posts)As my Spouse calls them,a regular Plate with sides. Fresh home made bread of buns slathered with real Butter. And a tall Glass of your fav Wine. Try it with a wedge of Aged Cheddar,killer.
Damn,it does not get any better.
