I had "free range dogs" growing up in the boondocks. You can't get away with that in urban areas.

The morning after I adopted my then six-month-old Aussie-Border Collie she burst past me to chase a rabbit in the wee morning and pitch-dark. Into the wetland field nearby she bounded, but no way I could catch up to her. So I was left crying my eyes out in the middle of the field thinking she'd never be found or return.
Well, 10 minutes later, here she comes and she's scarcely left my side since. If there is a prisoner in this relationship, it is ME to HER.
