A deep, profound, intelligent sci-fi flick. I have heard complaints about the incomprehensible stuff that happens at the end of the movie. I even heard a guy complain once that it's the worst movie he's ever seen. I always answer these complaints like this: I think the incomprehensibility of those events is a big part of the point of the movie. If we humans ever do encounter an extraterrestrial civilization that is that far ahead of us, wouldn't they be incomprehensible to us? Would we be able to understand them even as well as our pet dogs and cats understand us? Think about it.

I'm watching college football right now, but I have it set to DVR and I'll watch it later.

But now I don't. There is hardly any dialog or acting. It's mostly special effects. Yes, they hold up after all these years, but that's not enough. Early psychedelic scenes but the "Star Child" ending left a lot to the imagination.

BTW, my favorite film is now Vertigo. It has weaknesses in the plot, but is certainly Hitchcock's best.
