SHOWING OFF MY TREE (beautiful photos of her ornaments)

Snips....
Ive posted pictures of my Christmas tree over the years. Its 14 feet tall and plastic. My daughter, Vanessa, persuaded me to stop using real trees about a decade ago and I must admit plastic ones are easier cause the lights are already attached (but I add some red heart-shaped lights). Its also easy to put up but the decorating part takes 2 days each way 2 days to put up and 2 days to take down and this Holiday Ill be on my own to do it with a very tall ladder.
Still, Im going to do it. I decided today. Ill start the day after Thanksgiving. I mean, if Im going to do it I might as well have it up a full month.
My squirrel can see the tree through the window. Shes quite fat now. Were talking liposuction fat. Should I stop feeding her? There are squirrel experts among you thats why Im asking. BTW, when Im late putting peanuts (in their shells) in her feeder, she comes onto my porch and looks through the window for me.
Most of my time these days is spent writing climate articles and my opening for our weekly virtual Fire Drill Fridays and reading. I read about a book a week. I stop everything around 6pm, watch the Rachel Maddow show and then scroll around for shows to watch. Ive pretty much scraped the bottom of the barrel watching things I never thought Id see. I wont name names. But last night, the new season of The Crown started and its really good. Also, a multi-parter on Showtime about Ronald Reagan which tells the real story of his rise and the effect he had on American politics. Finally the truth!
I'm sure there's a lot of her family history hanging on that beautiful tree, with tons of memories.
Not religious any more but I do miss those days long ago when my wife (RIP) and both kids were little and the annual ritual of getting all the decorations from our attic, and the days of fun watching it all come together. Some days, getting old just sucks.

Personally, I wouldn't have put on that mushroom decoration. Thanks to the description of something given by Stormy Daniels, I can hardly stand to look at mushrooms anymore.

(866 posts)In 2016, my husband died. I got cancer surgery and chemo, and the horror of the election. I lost all desire to celebrate. This year, it started with just one string on the porch. Then I dig out the Peanuts scene, the giant candy canes, the blow up Santa and giant Feliz Navidad sign. I hung out the upstairs window to string colored lights. My daughter came over. I thought she was doing an intervention. But she and her little son had ordered a 9 foot Santa carrying a tree in a vintage 1940s truck. Im so happy this year. I have the tackiest display on the block.

(14,488 posts)You could not have bought any better therapy! I think that's why Jane did hers.
Plus, the children in your area get to enjoy it. They'll see it as beautiful, not tacky!
