I learned about R. Crumb and the Cheap Suit Serenaders a couple of years ago listening to airchecks of a station called KFAT that was in Gliroy, CA. They played a song on their station by that group called "Persian Rug" and I was mesmerized.

Persian Rug was another good one, yes. And the Hawaiian one always cracked me up: "...and she taught me language lessons, on the beach at Waikiki". Not positive what he means by language lessons but have a pretty good idea.
