160-year-old Civil War era photos restored and colorized

What a time to be alive. Now, I mean. I wouldn't trade it for back then. Amazing to look at the portraits though.

They could have just shown the pix instead trying to make it look like a freakin' magic show.
I can handle it. hahaha

Love the pix. Thanx for posting.

it will be a while before they come across another batch of 160-year-old pictures, so they were trying to make hay.

They weren't colorized. They were taken with early color film, from what I understand

Perhaps you've seen them:

It's intriguing looking at the different nationalities fighting on behalf of their respective nations. It also occurs to me when I see so much environmental destruction from battle, even more than a century ago, that Mother Nature always prevails, always reclaims. That process takes a while but it's inevitable.

It didn't occur between 1845-1860 as the initial caption says.

And yeah, there's a phony drama to this that just doesn't work for me.

No one looks very happy. Wonder when people started smiling for photos?

I was surprised that one woman actually had a smile.

Sometimes the people in those early photos had a kind of neck or head brace to keep their heads still. Don’t blink, don’t twitch, don’t get an itch.

In any case, the need to hold still for however long meant you couldn’t really ever look relaxed or natural.
