What a time to be alive. Now, I mean. I wouldn't trade it for back then. Amazing to look at the portraits though.

(26,674 posts)It's intriguing looking at the different nationalities fighting on behalf of their respective nations. It also occurs to me when I see so much environmental destruction from battle, even more than a century ago, that Mother Nature always prevails, always reclaims. That process takes a while but it's inevitable.

Sometimes the people in those early photos had a kind of neck or head brace to keep their heads still. Dont blink, dont twitch, dont get an itch.
In any case, the need to hold still for however long meant you couldnt really ever look relaxed or natural.
