Arkansas Granny
(32,265 posts)Yes, it was during the 70's.
Wicked Blue
(9,017 posts)Kindly meant and beautifully made, but oh, those colors.
What were designers thinking, selling us avocado green and harvest gold appliances, bright orange furniture and hideous bell-bottomed pants?
Perhaps they were on LSD?

I remember those horrid fashion mistakes from back then, ugh!

(114,675 posts)unconditional guarantee they offered which would have old folks dragging in their 30-year mattress for a refund--which they would invariably get.
I'm really sad to see Sears go, but how can one be surprised?
True Dough
(27,306 posts)My wife and I agree that one of the most comfortable that we've ever slept on came from Sears and it was in the mid-price range, not even high end.

(16,990 posts)If it was a Sear's brand they would replace any damaged clothing. My boys were always tearing out the knees of their jeans, so I would return them and get a brand new pair--free. They replaced them with the same size which was fine, as my boys were three years apart. It saved me loads of $$ at a time we really needed to save. It was a great incentive to buy their brand. I'm sorry to see them go.

(4,739 posts)I remember my childhood being so full of color! Very vibrant, saturated colors and busy patterns were everywhere.

(10,143 posts)Seems like 95% of cars are white, black, silver or beige. My son and DIL are house-hunting and every house they look at the whole place is painted in blinding white. Bleh.

(34,189 posts)Plus, most people that buy end up repainting anyway.
My husband finally sold his mother's house - she died nearly four years ago. The first year his siblings argued over what colors to repaint the house. Eventually, after Hurricane Michael, a new roof, and other issues, the house was sold to a company that gutted it and totally redid everything. If they had simply painted it white and put it on the market quickly, they would have cleared more money and gotten rid of the house much sooner.

(13,386 posts)Too, I noticed around the mid 80's the colorful cars began to dissapear. Back than they had horrible car colors like flesh tone and a vile snot green.
Freddie
(10,143 posts)That was baby-poop yellow-green. Brand new. Back in those days you could order a car from the dealer but she was impatient and that was the only one on the lot with the options she wanted.
Recently my son bought a new Hyundai Santa Fe, he got a better deal buying new (0% interest) than the young used car he originally set out to buy. He said there must have been 50 new ones on the lot to pick from. He chose black.

But wait, these fashion mistakes are gonna look mild compared to what some of todays duds will look like in 50 years.
