1. I adore Dan Fogelberg.

A wonderful talent and gone way too soon. This is such a good “what if” longing -for- what -might -have -been holiday song. Also good with a fire in the fireplace with only the Christmas tree lights lit and a glass of wine!

2. It certainly touches a nerve for me!

I fell in love with a beautiful young lady in college, and proposed to her--but she said no, said she wasn't ready to "be tied down." Long story short, we went our separate ways, but stayed in touch for a while. Well, six months later, she was ready to be tied down, I guess, because she invited me to her wedding to another guy. Three years later, just before Thanksgiving, she called me, asked me to help her get into law school, and told me she had divorced the other guy. We talked a few times in the next few weeks, and she agreed to go out with me New Year's Eve. "Awkward" was hardly the word for that night--she treated me like a muddy puppy the entire night. That was effectively the end of our relationship, altho I have heard from her and talked to her a few times.

Every time I hear this song, it all comes back to me.
