The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsMan, it's going to be a long day in clinic.
Somebody started a fire on the clinic doorstep. I respect the need to stay warm right now, but burning down the clinic is a rather radical approach.
Someone else had a meltdown when told that she had to use the approved detergent in the washing machine, instead of the brand she brought with her.
My MA Supervisor is late, and I don't know where our receptionist is.
I'd be looking for a window to jump out of, except that we're on the ground floor...

(27,488 posts)You never sound very happy or fulfilled with your situation at the clinic. I know you're trying to do good where it's greatly needed and I applaud you for doing so. You just tend to sound depressed and unhappy, also angry either at the clients, management or staff. I have to wonder if it's good for you.
All the best for a better 2021.

(71,876 posts)Admin won't grant it. Probably because I'm their most productive provider.
I love working in homeless medicine. It is really very rewarding; I've just been doing it for fifteen years, five as a Medical Assistant, and the last ten as a Physician Assistant, and I'm just getting burned out a little.
Every once in a while, like Friday two weeks ago, I'll have a great day that reminds me why I'm doing this, and that juices me up enough to keep going.
I choose the Lounge to blow off steam, so that it's not directed to my patients or my clinical team

(27,488 posts)I'm a volunteer, and give a significant amount of time each week to work in a Food Pantry. I'm in my 8th year there and I love the work and interacting with the clients that depend on us. I too get a good feeling knowing I'm helping people in great need.
Since the pandemic the volume of people needing groceries has grown 3x over what it was a year ago. It's become quite hectic and at times tense. The work environment has become very intense and I've stepped back for at least a month maybe more, just to take a breath. When it became a situation where I was dreading going in, and was stressed, I just knew I had to let go for a while.
I know you don't have the luxury to step away from your employment. I hope at some time you'll be able to transfer to a less demanding and stressful environment.
Thank you for what you do at the clinic.

(71,876 posts)My mother also volunteers at a food bank. She's going to be eighty in March, still independent, still living by herself, still active, and this gives her something rewarding to do with her days.
She also mentioned the huge increase in demand since the economy started to go south due to COVID-19.
It's got all of us stressed out...

How can a guy be that funny and that handsome at the same time? It's just not fair...

(71,876 posts)Yes, it had Ted Danson being funny and handsome at the same time. But his wardrobe for the show is some of the best clothing-porn I've ever seen. Catnip for a clothes-horse like me...

I have no idea how you manage to get through your tough work days, but somehow you get through it and accomplish more than most of us. Thank you for the important services that you and clinic provide to those who need it.
Here's to you.
