Okay. I've watched it 5 times and I absolutely love it. I don't see why people hate it so much. This is the Wonder Woman I grew up with. Who didn't us a sword or Shield. The superhero that was a more likely to use words first than force.
The invisible jet was a better version than the 70s show-which the 70s show was my favorite but the jet.
The fact she start flying is a nod to newer versions of Wonder Woman where she wasn't made from clay but daughter of Zeus and briefly became Goddess of Justice.
Padro was awesome as the con artist. bad guy.
Kristen Wiig did a better job than I thought she would. The Character should have been delveloped more and they muddle 3 versions of The Cheetah into 1. That should have been a character for a different movie at least the Cheetah part,
But I don't see why people hate it so much.
Any thoughts?

(2,120 posts)watching her spend the entire movie getting beaten up, laying on ground, can't walk alone, bleeding, moaning, pining for lost love...... This is a superhero. This is not what I want to see from her for the whole movie.
Then the gold wings outfit -- well the wings came off after 30 seconds but they are in all the promo material.
Looked like an outfit in search of a movie.

(1,114 posts)in order to give you your desire you lose something very important. Superman 2 Clark gave up his superpowers to be human. Had he not reverse his "wish" and took back his powers General Zod would have destroyed all he held dear.
I will agree about the suit but again it was a small nod to another part of the comics That whole thing with Cheetah was rushed and should have been a movie its own right.

(18,359 posts)Superman mindwiping Lois so she doesn't remember discovering that Clark is Superman and then their romantic encounters. He never asked.
Then in Superman Returns he goes back to Krypton leaving Lois with a bun of unknown origin the oven.

(1,114 posts)The Whole mind wipe I left was a kindness ro Lois who couldn't accept that Clark/Superman/ Kal- El are all the same person which I in later years felt it was unkind to the Character the the writers would make her that overwhelmed.

(9,759 posts)My problem with it was I thought the CGI was shoddy, the story was comic book/movie simplistic and I would have liked Wonder Woman to be more woman and less histrionic. The woman who played her was a good fit in looks. I was just disappointed that the story was not really about her as a woman of power. I thought the story was silly on many levels.
But that's just me and I can see that someone who is deep into it would have a different idea about what it should have been.

(56,198 posts)I guess I expect snl actors to be funny but merely average as actors. But she's funny and remarkably talented as an actor.
Without giving too much away, I think the problem with the movie is that was maybe, just maybe, a teensy weensy bit over the top....
I would have had Wiig as a longtime friend of Diana who go on adventures together to find dangerous artifacts and neutralize them. Think of the opening scene in Indiana Jones where you can tell Indiana has a long term relationship with the pilot that rescues him. Wiig and Gadot have very good chemistry. Their eventual falling out and fight would have had much more narrative weight if they were long time friends.

(196,493 posts)but my wife said thats what it was like in 1984. I didnt know it was that brazen.
The Chris Pine character re-emerging made no sense.
Kristen Wiigs character was Cat Woman.
There was more Pedro Pascal than Gal Gadot it seemed.
The action sequences went too long. The running parts looked bad.

(18,359 posts)SPOILERS
and I am sharing my observations not to degrade your enjoyment, but just point out how I thought it would be a better movie.
1. The cast is great. There is great chemistry between Gadot and Pine. I also think there was potentially great chemistry between Gadot and Kristen Wiig. Pascal does a great job chewing the scenery. I think he would make a great Khan in a future generation of Star Trek. He reminds me of Ricardo Montalban with that voice.
2. The major problem is inhabiting the body of an actual person and recognizing that it happened. Diana and Steve do not address the ethical ramifications of this fact. Is the man gone permanently. Can Steve engage in sex with Diana in this hijacked body. Is it justified to put this body in jeopardy. There are other problems. All of this could have been avoided by creating the body out of clay for example. Also the final scene where Diana is hitting on the man who didn't know she had seen him and touched him in an intimate fashion is extremely creepy. It is almost like a frat boy smirking after roofieing a girl.
3. A out of time Steve Trevor is a problem when it comes to having an adventure. In the original movie he is modern, has a network of allies, and technical skills like piloting (more on that later). He was also part of a larger team for a good part of the movie. All these things balance Diana who is a demigod. The team up doesn't seem credible. Diana should have left him behind. It would be like Superman taking an out of time Lois with him on an adventure. They do a good job covering up for the deficiencies by giving him something to do.
4. The whole plane sequence stretches credulity too much. Without some other plot device such as him inhabiting the body of the pilot, he cannot fly a modern jet. The availability of the jet (military style fully fueled and ready to go outside the Smithsonian also stretches credibility. Since she works for the Smithsonian, I just would have the plot device that the plane is actually a museum corporate jet, and one she regularly uses.
5. I would have started the movie with Diana and Barbara as long time friends on an adventure to acquire the Wish Stone. Think Indiana Jones and his relationship with the pilot. This would add more narrative weight to a later battle between them. Also it would make a better linkage to the Wishstone than the mall scene.
6. My next scene would be an extended dream sequence in which her and Steve had some sort of romantic encounter. This isn't Steve but an extremely realistic dream simulation (like what you would see in Sandman). As time goes on, she returns to those dreams more and more. I would not have her acting like a pathetic loser pining for Pine for the last 70 years. This dream condition is brought about by the Wishstone. It is corrupting her by disengaging her from real life. Same deal with giving Steve up as in the actual movie.
7. I would have limited the scope of the effect of the Wishstone. Worldwide does too much damage and isn't needed narratively. It also brings up lots of awkward questions like parents renouncing their wish to remove cancer from their child.
That is my thoughts.

(56,198 posts)Wait, a woman asks everyone to renounce their greatest wish and the entire planet just... does it????

(1,114 posts)Just to rebut this point:

Yes, Steve took over the man's body. but he is seen at the end of the movie wearing exact outfit Diane had Steve/his body put on in the dressing scene. Maybe it was dumb of me but I looked at it as Steve only came to that body because the body was the reincarnation of Steve. That the wish stirred his past memories. maybe naive or dumb of me to think.

I understand what you are saying about that but the Jewelry store was a front for stolen/smuggled items that Max Lord used to get the wishing stone.
finally I don't think is a pathetic loser pining for Steve. I see it as Steve being her one true love. I had an aunt whose first love died and she never married after that death. she spent 50 years after his death living and enjoying her life but you always saw his memory come to her mind when she saw certain things. To me it made sense.
