My spouse has a new tactic

If I ramble down a path in conversation that is disagreeable she stops moving and speaking and freezes like a bad zoom call.

Highly effective.

Mr Lake has a series of hmmms and unh huhs as conversational devices.

Having said that I can ramble as long as I like.

Two days later, Mr Lake says something like: Someone told me the other day...

I find out he did listen. Some..

her face.

In the past two months, I have seen a change in my wife. She is highly intelligent, and well educated, but rather stoic. She tends to knock the hard corners off of hard issues and far more willing to compromise to keep the peace than I am. She knows that I am passionate and demonstrative in my political beliefs and she tolerates me anyway. (sometimes with an eye-roll) My wife wouldn't say "shit" if she stepped in a steaming pile of it, but I have seen a hardening in the last two months, more anger and less tolerance than before. I keep expecting her to scream at the TV any moment! Even after 51 years together she can still surprise me.

Hell, who knows, in another 50 years she may be willing to join ANTIFA, but she would insist on organizing it first. I know this for fact, I was organized a long time ago.

I can hear people’s eyes roll. Sometimes my eyes actually hurt from rolling so much. I yell at people on the tv all the time.
