Of course they do. But the meat and animal-products industries don't want you to believe it. Flaxbee Jul 2012 #1

I don't and do not believe that humans and animals have souls. But I do believe that animals have more compassion than humans.

market where I know how the hens are treated, I drink soy milk, and am switching to vegan "dairy" cheeses, butter, etc. Husband isn't too convinced about the vegan substitutes but we're getting there.

I also try very hard to find good shoes, belts, bags, etc. that aren't leather, or if they are leather, they're recycled (repurposing old leather jackets to handbags, etc.).

It's not always easy, especially when traveling (some of the places I've been are very meat-centric and eating raw veggies isn't necessarily a good idea); and especially because I really love beautiful shoes and bags, but animal products make me sad.

Why don't you believe in souls? That's very interesting. What do you think gives an animal or person their 'essence' or individuality? I'm not being argumentative or anything - just interested.

Animals can be brutal, but it' usually honest brutality - part of nature. Not usually wounding just to wound or torment (though cats don't always kill immediately - the big ones do, I think, but housecats - mine included - tend to play with their caught mousies).
