I found out today that a friend of 50 years has an inoperable brain tumor and maybe six weeks left to live. Although he and I have drifted apart the past couple decades, I wrote him a note this evening. I did not feel 'emotionally up to' calling.
The past several years I have looked up old friends, roommates, classmates, coworkers, etc and found that many have passed away, and many from various forms of cancer.
In my own family, out of five brothers I have two brothers die of different types of cancer, and two still living who are battling cancer. Four out of five of my brothers with some form of cancer.
