As far as "The Trolley Song" I guess the line was in that song too, but that's not the song I was thinking of.

(Can you believe that Ray Davies wrote that song 45 years ago?)

Trigger happy policemen are still very much around here in the good old USA
(In the U.K. where Ray lives, probably not so much)
