Besides purr, of course.
Charlotte my calico does the "kneading" with her paws out, in the air.
My black cat Raven doesn't really knead, except once in a while, but she'll actually drool on me.

(7,627 posts)he does it to wake us up as well. The first time it was weird because the pad inside the paws is not something you usually feel.

(2,218 posts)Kneading is the standard for all of them.
My Jersey polydactyl just stares at me like he can't get enough of me. He's my special boy.

(94 posts)I've found offering my hooman a freshly killed rodent carcass has some success.
And, on occasion, as a reward gets me reunited with my buds at the shelter.

(118,622 posts)I keep petting her. She'll sit on me in bed and do it to keep me petting. She'll come up beside me while i'm in the bath and do the same. I don't decide when the petting stops with her. Captain Hughey will head butt my hand to get me to pet him. He will sometimes knead. Both of them purr. No food is involved in these behaviours so i know we love each other.

(118,622 posts)Yes and a few weeks ago i was at the front door to my building and I could hear Captain Hughey crying for me behind my apartment door. He's smart. He knew i had not gone far. Love the critters.

(115,674 posts)She also insists that I pet her with both hands. If I am using only one hand she'll pat the unused one until I pet her two-handed - and she'll drag the hand toward herself with her claws if she has to.

(1,967 posts)Milo will head butt my hand to get me to pet him, then he will start licking my hand or arm. All the while he is purring.
What a sweet little guy.

(5,125 posts)She sits on our lap or if we are in bed on top of our hip and we just "can't move" because we are in "Kitty Jail" and the Warden is pretty strict with us.
My Grandkids were too bouncy for awhile but when they learned to be calm and quiet around her, they TOO got in "Kitty Jail" and it was like "LOOK GMA, I'm in Kitty Jail" like it was some huge prize they won.
The BIG cat Harry does this head butt thing and his PURR is a triple purr. Never heard a purr so loud. He also talks. Me -owt for I need to go out. And Heh-RO?? Sounds like Hello? I am here, someone come and LOVE ME - NOW.

(3,255 posts)Will announce quite loudly that shes on her way to find me and my lap. Think LOUD, slightly sweeter, Siamese meowing. She will muscle her way in (biting dog if needed) and she will paw the blanket to let me know she prefers to curl up in a lap with a blanket. And, she prefers me to stay put. No leaning forward for a glass of water! No way. She will catapult herself out of my lap, go eat a bite, and then come back to my lap. This can go on for hours.

(22,061 posts)In the evening, I am her bed for a little tv. I had to laugh tonight--I realized I had her on my stomach, a mini-doxie on my legs, and a diapered baby goat in the crook of my arm. All asleep.

(4,138 posts)He runs over to the stairs and flops down for pets. Then, when you start petting him, he will start rolling around on his back until his head is hanging over a step, and slides down a step headfirst, and upside-down.
Yes, he's weird, but very affectionate.

Or she will grab my hand with her paw to direct me where to scritch.
Massacure
(7,518 posts)One meows at my to get my attention, and then when I look at her she does a limp flop onto whatever side would expose her belly to me.
The other one will usually knead the blanket next to me when I go to bed and then when he is done with that he'll lay on or against my chest for 10-15 minutes depending on whether I'm on my back or my side. After he's had enough, he'll run off for a while and he'll usually be laying at the edge of the bed when I get up in the morning.

(22,250 posts)or the practice of being within a foot of a human. She seeks affection from one of our other cats
As for the other 4: two of them are pushing 18 (brothers).
Clark creeps up into my lap and lies across my stomach; he attends all my Zoom meetings! He spends a major portion of the day either on my lap or on the back of the sofa.
CatZilla likes to snuggle on the sofa with my husband; he used to sleep with me and he would lick the tip of my nose before he settled down to sleep. For some reason he just stopped doing that. He loves having his belly rubbed; our daughter used to call him the "Belly 'Ho".
She Who Shall Not Be Touched is madly in love with him and will snuggle with him any time.
Squeaker who is about 6 yrs old just lands on either me or my husband (mostly my husband) One of his nicknames is Sir PlopsALot. He loves a good belly rub too and he has a magnificent purr. Recently he has taken to tucking himself next to me in my chair with his butt down in the corner where the arm joins the back.
Missy is Squeaker's sister from a different litter. She is shy but if she catches one of us in the bathroom a good petting session will follow.
